13.00 - 14.30 Exploring Sustainability at the Amsterdam Law School (includes break)

The programme consists of four parts:

  • During the first part we will take you on a journey through sustainability research at the Amsterdam Law School. Learn more about their research groups, sub-disciplines and major projects in the field of sustainability.
  • Christina Eckens and Klaas Eller will present research projects on climate litigation and regulation of supply chains. Afterwards, we'll have a panel discussion with three members from different disciplines: Ans Kolk (Faculty of Economics and Business, International Business), Jeff Diamanti (Faculty of Humanities, Environmental Humanities) and Elisabeth Krueger (Faculty of Science, Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics). They will briefly explain their areas of expertise and highlight potential connections and opportunities for collaboration in sustainability research.
  • During the third part of the afternoon PhD candidate Yannick van den Berg will present his sustainability research and latest findings. He will tell us more about his PhD research. He uses a social practice theory framework to explore ways in which (consumer) law in Europe could reduce consumer uptake of flying outside the most commonly explored avenues of taxation and financial incentives.
  • The fourth and final part is a presentation by an external organization active in the faculty's discipline. Filippo Fantozzi will present the practice of Urgenda. Urgenda is a foundation that aims for a fast transition towards a sustainable society, amongst others means by resorting to public interest litigation. The presentation will allow us to discuss possible cooperation between academic research and Urgenda.
