The UvA Seed Grants aim to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration on complex societal issues. This call focuses on the Sustainable Prosperity Theme only.

  • Duration: 6-12 months

Eligibility and Requirements:

Initiatives should introduce a new research angle, methodology, or collaboration, and produce a tangible output (e.g., joint grant proposal, research paper, proof of concept).

  • The call is open to all UvA tenure-track, assistant, associate, and full professors, and professors by special appointment.
  • Projects should involve at least two faculties. We strongly encourage new interdisciplinary teams.
  • Funding: €15,000 to €40,000 per project.
  • Duration: 6-12 months.

Application Requirements:

  • Format: proposal in English, maximum of 1000 words.
  • Proposal title and list of applicants and their commitment.
  • Description of the research initiative, including:
    • Scientific and societal relevance.
    • Expected outcomes, success indicators, and potential for follow-up.
    • Budget and timeline.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Alignment with the Sustainable Prosperity theme (see the USP website).
  • Quality and feasibility of the research plan.
  • Potential for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Eligible expenses: personnel costs, data access and collection, data infrastructure, research assistants, conferences / research travel / visitor proposals.
